Rakib Hasan, first husband of Tamima Tammi who recently married cricketer Nasir Hossain, among three people and a rights organization has served a legal notice to the government seeking instructions to digitize marriage and divorce registrations, according to media reports.
Rights organization Aid for Men Foundation, and three victims, collectively sent the notice through lawyer Ishrat Hasan to the secretaries of ministries of law, information and technology and religious affairs, asking to take necessary measures in three days, according to reports.
The three victims are Md Rakib Hasan, Md Sohag Hossain and Md Kamrul Hasan, their lawyer Ishrat Hasan told to media.
The lawyer said marriages and divorces are registered in accordance with the provisions of existing law which is an analog system.
As a result, any husband and wife whose marriage was registered in one jurisdiction can easily conceal it in another jurisdiction and enter into another marriage fraudulently concealing his or her previous marriage or marriages, Ishrat Hasan added.
On the other hand, cricketer Nasir Hossain has recently tied the knot with Tamima Tammi on Valentine’s Day. A debate has already created over this marriage as Rakib Hasan claimed himself as the first husband of Tamima.
Rakib’s wife Tamima Tammi has married cricketer Nasir without divorcing her husband which is a legally punishable offense. As Nasir and Tamima are influential in this issue, they are threatening Rakib in various ways. In such a situation we are by the side of Rakib, said Saiful Islam Nadim, general secretary of the organization.
The police station OC Shah Md. Akhtaruzzaman Elias has confirmed the matter to the media that Rakib lodged a GD with Uttara West Police Station on Thursday night in this regard.
